Since my last post on stuff in my stash that was similar to Radiant Orchid, Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2014, I've decided that I should bust out some of those products and actually use them!

Pretty Serious Cosmetics Atomic Brain: Look at all that duochrome!

One of these is part of my slow downward spiral as I continue to throw the contents of my wallet into this black hole called "indie nail polishes", but my, oh my, the spiral sure is pretty! For today's example, let's take a look at Pretty Serious Cosmetic's Atomic Brain. Isn't it so pretty?

Atomic Brain is part of Pretty Serious Cosmetic's They Came From Beyond Space! Collection, which is three duochrome-y polishes. I happened to get all three because, OOH SHINIES! DUOCHROMES! FOILS!, and I don't regret them. This collection is quite a keeper, in my opinion. Atomic Brain is a purple with a foil finish. As a bonus, it also has a very pretty duochrome that looks primarily gold gold. Below, you can see how prettily duochrome it is!

The duochrome is best seen in brighter lights or natural sunlight. For the most part when I wore it indoors, it looked like a nice orchid purple with a pretty foily-looking shimmer. Still pretty, but not as much duochrome as in better lighting. These photos were taken in natural sunlight. I don't know what's up with my camera, and fortunately that day was just the day that my camera decided to cooperate! This is three coats on its own. Isn't it great that you don't need to layer these over black to get the duochrome to come out? I suspect if you did layer it over another colour, the duochrome could look even more awesome.

Pretty Serious Atomic Brain: I can Pantone Radiant Orchid-ize my nails for 2014.

Application was good, no strange splayed brush or anything like that. Texture was thicker than I expected, but worked well. Most duochromes I've come across tend to have a watery-thin texture, but this is more like normal polish thickness. When I wore these, they lasted for maybe 4-5 days on me, which is about average for most nail polish brands. I bought these from Mei Mei Signatures when they were on sale, and I'm happy to have them. And now I can Pantone Radiant Orchid-ize my nails for the rest of the year in duochrome-y style!

The Bottom Line: A very pretty purple with very pretty duochrome and an oil-slick appearance. The pretty, unique shade is combined with great application and good wear.
